Step-by-Step Instructions
  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, onion, breadcrumbs, egg, milk, salt, and pepper. Mix until well combined.
  3. Transfer the meat mixture into the baking dish and press it down firmly. Bake for 20 minutes.
  4. While the meatloaf is baking, boil water and cook the macaroni until al dente. Drain and set aside.
  5. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Add flour and stir for about one minute to make a roux.
  6. Gradually whisk in the milk until thick and bubbling. Stir in seasonings and add shredded cheese, mixing until melted.
  7. Fold the cooked macaroni into the cheese sauce, ensuring it's well coated.
  8. Pour the macaroni and cheese mixture evenly over the meatloaf. Top with remaining cheese.
  9. Bake the assembled casserole for 25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
