Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 packet 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 3/4 cup warm water approximately 110°F
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 8 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup sliced pepperoni
  • 1/2 cup marinara sauce
  • 1 teaspoon dried Italian herbs
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper optional

Method

  1. In a small bowl, mix the warm water, sugar, and yeast together. Allow it to sit for about 5 minutes until it becomes frothy.
  2. In a larger bowl, combine the flour and salt. Create a well in the center, then pour in the yeast mixture along with the olive oil. Stir until a dough begins to form.
  3. On a floured surface, knead the dough for 5-7 minutes until it is smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm area for about an hour, or until it has doubled in size.
  4. Preheat the oven to 475°F (245°C).
  5. Roll the risen dough into a large circle, approximately 14 inches wide, on a floured surface.
  6. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese around the perimeter of the dough, then fold the edge over the cheese and pinch it to seal, creating a stuffed crust.
  7. Carefully place the dough onto a greased pizza stone or baking sheet. Spread marinara sauce evenly over the center, avoiding the stuffed crust.
  8. Arrange the pepperoni slices on top of the sauce. Add the dried Italian herbs, onion powder, and crushed red pepper if desired.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbling.
  10. Allow the pizza to cool for a few minutes before slicing and enjoying.
