Step-by-Step Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and prepare a baking sheet lined with foil and a wire rack on top.
- In a bowl, mix together brown sugar, water, black pepper, cayenne, and any optional spices. Dredge bacon strips in the mixture and lay them on the wire rack.
- Bake the bacon for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway through until golden brown and caramelized. Allow the bacon to cool and chop it into pieces.
- Slice the baguette into ½-inch thick pieces, brush with olive oil, and season with salt and pepper. Toast in the oven for 8-10 minutes until golden and crisp.
- Spread goat cheese over each toasted baguette slice, sprinkle with chopped candied bacon, and drizzle with maple syrup, honey, or hot honey.
- Serve immediately and garnish with fresh herbs if desired.

Notes
For best texture, store toasted baguette slices and bacon separately, assemble just before serving. Can freeze candied bacon for up to 2 months.
