Step-by-Step Instructions
- In a mixing bowl, combine flour, brown sugar, and salt. Cut in cold, unsalted butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Press into the bottom of a greased 20x30 cm baking pan.
- Remove stems from dried figs and chop coarsely. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine figs and a small amount of water. Cook for 5 minutes until softened, then blend with cooking liquid and lemon juice until smooth.
- In another bowl, beat cream cheese until creamy, gradually add sugar, vanilla, and egg. Mix until smooth. Spread this mixture over the fig layer.
- Preheat oven to 180°C (356°F). Bake for approximately 30 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden and the cream cheese layer is set but slightly jiggly.
- Allow the bars to cool completely on a wire rack. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours or overnight before slicing into squares.

Notes
Allowing the bars to chill overnight enhances flavors and improves texture. Use a sharp knife dipped in hot water for clean slices.
