Preparation Steps
- Peel the onions, slice off the top 1/4 inch, and make 8-12 downward cuts into each onion.
- Soak the onions in buttermilk for 10-15 minutes.
- Mix together flour, breadcrumbs, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne, salt, and pepper.
- Coat each onion in the flour mixture after soaking.
- Heat the vegetable oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep skillet or fryer.
- Fry the coated onions for 3-4 minutes until golden brown.
- Mix mayonnaise, buttermilk, garlic powder, dill, salt, and pepper to prepare the dip.
- Arrange the crispy onions on a platter and serve with the dip.
