Method
 

Preparation
  1. Peel 2-3 sweet onions, cut about 1/4 inch off the tops, and slice each onion into 8-12 petal-like sections.
  2. Soak the prepared onions in a bowl of buttermilk for 10-15 minutes.
  3. Combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour, 1 cup of seasoned breadcrumbs, 1 tablespoon of paprika, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon of cayenne pepper, and salt and pepper in a mixing bowl.
  4. Coat the soaked onions in the flour mixture, ensuring even coverage.
  5. Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or fryer to 350°F.
  6. Fry the coated onions in batches for 3-4 minutes until golden brown and crispy.
  7. Mix together 1/2 cup of mayonnaise, 1/2 cup of buttermilk, 1 teaspoon of garlic powder, 1 tablespoon of dried dill, and salt and pepper for the dip.
  8. Serve fried onions with creamy ranch dip in the center of a serving platter.
