Ingredients
  

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup unsalted butter softened
  • ¾ cup brown sugar packed
  • ¼ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1 cup cream cheese softened
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract for cream cheese filling
  • 1 egg for egg wash
  • 1 tablespoon water for egg wash

Method
 

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Gradually add the flour mixture to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  6. In another bowl, mix the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  7. Roll out half of the cookie dough on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle about ¼ inch thick.
  8. Spread half of the cream cheese mixture over the dough rectangle.
  9. Fold the dough in half lengthwise and cut into strips about 1 inch wide.
  10. Twist each strip a few times and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  11. In a small bowl, whisk together the egg and water to create an egg wash. Brush the tops of the twists with the egg wash.
  12. Repeat steps 7-11 with the remaining dough and cream cheese mixture.
  13. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
