- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (optional)
- 1/4 cup chopped nuts or dried fruit (optional)
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon (if using). Mix well.
- In another bowl, cream together the softened butter and honey until light and fluffy.
- Add the milk and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and mix until combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined. If desired, fold in the chopped nuts or dried fruit.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead gently for about 1 minute until smooth.
- Roll the dough into a rectangle about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into squares or rectangles, about 3 inches by 3 inches.
- Place the pieces on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until lightly golden.
- Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a sweeter version, increase the honey to 1/3 cup.
- To make it more traditional, wrap each piece in a large leaf (like banana leaves) before serving for an authentic touch.
